What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is an area of dentistry focused on improving the appearance and design of your smile and resolving your cosmetic dental problems. In just one convenient office visit at Marina Dental Care, Dr. Chan can often perform multiple cosmetic services.

In many cases, cosmetic dentistry allows you to avoid more extensive orthodontic treatments. Marina Dental Care provides a number of natural-looking cosmetic dentistry options and dental prosthesis that discreetly blend in with your natural teeth.

What are some of my cosmetic dentistry options?

Marina Dental Care offers proven cosmetic dentistry services, including the following:

Teeth straightening

You can successfully straighten your teeth in different ways, such as traditional metal braces or clear aligner trays that work to straighten and realign crooked and misaligned teeth.

Veneers are wafer-thin porcelain sheets designed to cover stained or chipped teeth. Veneers act as a protective, thin porcelain shell, effectively covering the front surface of your tooth.

Teeth whitening

You can choose from different effective teeth-whitening options, such as the exceptional in-office 1.5-hour Zoom! laser treatment. Most teeth-whitening procedures involve highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel that whitens your teeth. You can select from several shades to get the most natural-looking results.

Professional teeth whitening is much better than at-home whitening methods because of the stronger concentration of bleaching chemicals that are carefully and properly administered by a trained dental professional.

Dental bonding

In just 30-60 minutes in the office, Dr. Chan can apply a tooth-colored resin to alter and improve the shape and look of your tooth.

Like a protective cap, crowns cover and sit on top of your tooth to restore discolored, chipped, or broken teeth.

A bridge is an excellent method of replacing missing teeth or a single missing tooth. A bridge essentially bridges the gap between your teeth using crowns that are attached together.

Dental implants

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots used to secure your dental prosthesis in place. During an in-office procedure, Dr. Chan surgically attaches the dental implants to your jawbone. The implants and your jawbone fuse together over time.

Why would I choose cosmetic dentistry?

You might be interested in cosmetic dentistry to enhance the appearance of your smile and to:

Veneers San Francisco, CA

Veneers are no longer a celebrity secret. These thin white porcelain sheets are now the effective solution for misshapen, stained, or cracked teeth, and many other dental problems. What are veneers?

Veneers are a popular dental treatment involving wafer-thin porcelain shells or sheets that are specially designed to recreate the feel and look of your natural teeth. Veneers are usually made from composite resin or porcelain. Porcelain is a stain-resistant material that usually matches more closely to your natural enamel.

Dr. Chan custom-fits and bonds each veneer to your individual teeth to strengthen weak teeth and cover up imperfections, such as cracks, stains, gaps, or misshapen teeth.

During your personal consultation, Dr. Chan takes time to explain the process in detail and helps you determine if veneers are the right option for you.

What’s involved in getting veneers?

To get your beautiful veneers, you start by discussing your goals and determine the best type of veneers to suit you. Dr. Chan either prepares your teeth for your new veneers right there and then or you might need to return to Marina Dental Care.

Dr. Chan might need to carefully remove a tiny portion of surface enamel to shape your existing teeth to get ready for your new veneers. She usually makes a mold of your teeth and sends the mold to a special dental lab where your customized veneers are created by a qualified dental lab technician.

When your veneers are ready, usually about a week or two later, you return to Marina Dental Care where Dr. Chan custom fits your veneers to each tooth.

For the final step, Dr. Chan cleans and etches the surface of your teeth to prepare them for the bonding process. Dr. Chan applies a light source and a special dental cement to help the adhesive and porcelain successfully bond together.

What benefits do veneers offer?

Veneers offer a multitude of benefits. There’s no invasive dental work and the treatment is well-tolerated by your gums.

Veneers can protect and strengthen your teeth and effectively lighten darker teeth. They can protect the surface of your teeth from damage and give you a beautiful bright, white, and properly aligned smile.

Veneers are stain resistant, natural-looking, long-lasting, and more cost-effective than other dental treatments, like crowns. This dental solution is a great way to correct crooked, cracked, or misshapen teeth.

If you have questions about dental veneers and how they can help you achieve a Hollywood-worthy, gorgeous smile, call Marina Dental Care or schedule an appointment online today.

Dentures San Francisco, CA

Thanks to modern advances in dentistry, you can now choose custom and effective dentures like implant-supported removable dentures to restore your smile and confidence. At Marina Dental Care in San Francisco, Tracy Chan, DDS, is highly skilled and gifted in the art of fitting and creating beautiful dentures. Dr. Chan can help you decide the right dentures to suit your individual needs and get you smiling with confidence. Book online or call Marina Dental Care today.

Are there different types of dentures?

Dentures are replacement teeth that give support to your cheeks and lips and assist in chewing, speaking, and smiling. Marina Dental Care offers different treatment options for dentures, such as:

  • Acrylic partial dentures
  • Dental implants and crowns
  • Denture relines
  • Soft denture liners
  • Metal framework partial dentures
  • Implant-supported dentures

Your custom dentures are typically created in a dental lab.

Standard dentures

Standard full dentures involve a full set of upper and lower teeth that uses suction to remain in place. Standard dentures are derived from a pliable material.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures only replace a limited number of teeth, not an entire set. Your remaining teeth and gums support your partial dentures.

Cosmetic dentures

Cosmetic dentures are specially designed to look as natural as possible. Innovative cosmetic dentures are made from a special acrylic base that helps prevent the denture from shrinking or warping out of shape. Advanced cosmetic dentures typically rest on or snap onto a dental implant.

Dr. Chan surgically fuses a dental implant to your jawbone to replace your natural tooth root. Your removable dentures are securely attached onto your dental implants.

What are immediate dentures?

If you’ve lost your teeth as a result of prolonged decay, injury, or illness, you might choose immediate dentures that are placed quickly so you don't have to live without teeth. Other dentures involve a few office visits in around 3-6 weeks, or longer, but immediate dentures are usually placed in as little as a few days.

Be aware that as your mouth heals from the loss of your natural teeth, Dr. Chan will need to reline your dentures to make sure you achieve the most comfortable and accurate fit over time.

Are partial dentures the best choice for me?

If you have missing teeth but still have some natural teeth, partial dentures might be the right solution. Partial dentures with metal frames can stay in place without the use of dental adhesives. They usually have clasps that anchor to existing teeth.

Acrylic partial dentures are a cost-effective solution that’s usually cheaper than partials with metal frames. Acrylic partial dentures are often used to temporarily replace front teeth while Dr. Chan or a qualified lab technician constructs your permanent partials or bridges.

Bonding San Francisco, CA

Dental bonding is a quick, convenient, affordable, and effective option to resolve minor teeth flaws and concerns. At Marina Dental Care in San Francisco, Tracy Chan, DDS, offers dental bonding to protect your natural teeth and restore minor aesthetic flaws. Decide if this practical and long-lasting solution is right for you by calling Marina Dental Care or scheduling an appointment online today.

What is dental bonding?

Cosmetic dental bonding is a professional in-office process that involves the application of a tooth-colored resin. Marina Dental Care offers dental bonding to improve the look and shape of your tooth and conceal wide spaces between your teeth. Dr. Chan might also suggest dental bonding to protect any exposed tooth roots.

Dental bonding could be the right choice for minor cosmetic dental flaws and concerns, such as minor teeth misalignment or tooth damage. For example, if one tooth is too short, dental bonding can be used to change the length of your tooth so it’s longer and beautifully blends in with the rest of your teeth.

With dental bonding, Dr. Chan uses a beautiful, natural-looking material to restore front and back teeth, repair root abrasions, change your tooth color, restore broken and fractured teeth, replace unattractive and unwanted silver fillings, and more.

How does dental bonding work?

Dental bonding is a simple process that usually takes around 30-60 minutes per tooth.

Dr. Chan uses a shade guide to decide the best composite resin color to match your natural tooth. Anesthesia isn’t usually needed unless the bonding is used to fill a decayed tooth.

Dr. Chan slightly roughens the tooth surface before applying a conditioning liquid that allows the bonding agent to securely and properly adhere to your tooth.

Dr. Chan then smooths and molds the composite resin onto your teeth and carefully applies a special dental laser light that hardens the resin. Dr. Chan trims the resin to get the best possible shape before polishing it, so it blends in nicely with the rest of your natural teeth.

What benefits does dental bonding offer?

Marina Dental Care provides dental bonding as a quick, convenient, minimally invasive, and more affordable dental treatment option.

If you maintain good oral hygiene and properly take care of your teeth, dental bonding can last anywhere from 3-10 years or more, with no special care required. Just as you normally would, you continue to brush twice daily and floss once daily.

Dental bonding is designed to act and feel just like your natural teeth. Dental bonding is reliable and a great choice, but you should take care to avoid damaging your dental bonding. Clean your teeth regularly and avoid chewing on especially hard items.

Dental bonding works especially well for minor imperfections that require significantly less removal of tooth enamel.

To find out if dental bonding is the right option to improve your smile, call Marina Dental Care or book an appointment online today.
